Learning to Blog

Learning to blog is becoming one of the most interesting things that I can say I have done for some time. I am trying to learn to make my blog easier for all of you to navigate, and to just make it look cool too :) Over the next few weeks I hope that some wonderful changes will be made! Have a great weekend ahead!

Weekend Warrior Day 2 and 3

Hey everyone! It has been a long nice long extended weekend, which has helped me get a little further on my weekend warrior project!

Quilting is definitely an art. For those that are experts at this, I tip my hat! Understanding why something doesn't square up and how to fix it, is something to be learned. I spent the majority of day 2 creating 6 blocks that are not perfectly lined up and decided I needed to take a "first lesson" if you will, in quilting. So this morning(Day 3) I took some time to teach myself some new lessons. It was a good lesson and I learned much!

(top 6 "unperfect" bottom 2 "perfect")

First off- LOVE my steam iron. Second- Quarter inch seams are the key!

Finally today I got around to sewing two new blocks, and I think they turned out great! So now what to do about the first 6 that I did that are not perfect? To rip them out and re-sew. Or let them go and try and work it out later. The artist in me says leave it because art is not perfect, but the perfectionist in me says fix it fast! Time will tell-

I hope that you all can find something fun to do that will get your creativity flowing! Until next weekend, take care.

Weekend Warrior Day 1

My warrior project for the next few weekends is a quilt that I have been wanting to make for awhile. It reminds me of times past, but with a flair of modern. I will be making this pattern but with different colors:

I will be using a mix of blues, pinks, and greys. I hope to finish the top in 3 weekends or less.

The last time I made a quilt my oldest daughter was around 4 years old. She is now 12 working on 13. So it's been some time since I have worked on a quilting project. I have since become much more refined in my sewing skills and it shows! I am excited to finish this project, hopefully to become a family heir loom.

Here are the fabrics that I am going to use:
Picking fabrics for me was a lot of fun! For those of you that know me, you know that I love fabric, so shopping for some new lovelies wasn't hard for me at all! It's so fun to watch the color palette start to move with each added fabric.

next came the cutting. I do not remember this process to be so long and tiring, this was the one part I am happy to be done with!

As I started to sew the pieces together I was reminded about how much I truly love to create and what joy it brings me! I hope that you all can find something fun to do that will get your creativity flowing! Until tomorrow, take care.

Wow! No new post since October?

Funny how slow a day can seem, but time otherwise flies by! Well, here we are mid February '11. Headed towards one of the most beautiful times of the year- Spring! Living in Minnesota, we look forward to this as much, if not more than most! After months of crazy snow and cold, we can finally soon see grass, rain, rainbows, and flowers, what beauty that will be!

Until then, I will keep working on new projects and new ideas. One is going to be the weekend warrior series. I am going to try to make one new project over the weekend, or if need be weekends in a row :)

Take some time today to enjoy something new, enjoy those around you, and enjoy life....because time goes way too fast!
